I appreciate your work, I just had one comment about a particular section regarding Joeseph McCarthy. A lot of falsehood surrounds him, including the idea that he persecuted innocent Hollywood writers(*Senator* McCarthy had nothing to do with the *House* Un-American Activities Commitee).
Regarding his actual hearings, McCarthy was privy to classified information from the FBI, via decrpyted communications(Project Venona) from the Soviet Union to its assets, that proved there was deep infiltration of Soviet spies in the American government: Julius and Ethel Rosenberg who leaked(among other thing) nuclear weapon technology to the Soviet Union, and Harry Dexter White, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under FDR who passed secret information to the USSR as well, from a longer list of many other spies.
McCarthy has been wrongly besmirched by history. As mentioned before, he did, in fact, find Communist spies in the US. Secondly, during his hearings against anyone who was innocent, he cleared them fairly quickly of any wrongdoing. He wasn't perfect, but he was quite fair during most all of the hearing; as a former judge, who happened to be well-liked enough to be elected Senator afterward, he was well-acquainted with the Constitution and due process.
I highly encourage you or anyone else reading this to check out Blacklisted by History by M. Stanton Evans if you want a higher-level overview of the real history behind the mythology we have surrounding this case.
There were, indeed, Soviet agents at a number of very high places in the US government in McCarthy's time. In other words . . . McCarthy was right. After all.
I live in Central Texas. If you care to visit I can easily show you the actual system of white supremacy that is Texas' political culture. I am also happy to correspond with you about it. Would that that system had expired of "natural causes", but it didn't. This is so obvious I am a bit concerned by your claim that racism and hatred of poor people of color is ancient history. Have you read any of Gov. Abbot's speeches?
I am genuinely interested. I have tried some searches but so far am coming up short. The only thing I could find so far is the Daniel Perry pardon, which is not so clear cut. If you have some links, I would appreciate it.
I am sorry that I only just saw your comment. I don’t know where you live nor your education. Very briefly, the Union won the Civil War but lost the peace.
In other words the racial culture of the South continued without legal slavery. The South’s defeat in the Civil War was excused for a number of reasons. The South as an economic region was the poorest in the country.
As America became an industrial power and cotton became a commodity product the South settled into a culture of racial hierarchy enforced by community violence- lynching and other techniques of torture-murder.
The world advanced, African Americans made progress in sports and the arts nationally.
Read Huckleberry Finn, Faulkner and Kevin Kruse (a fine historian on the Princeton faculty.

In fact, Sam Dickstein, who co-chaired the HUAC in the 30s, was posthumously exposed as a paid Soviet agent.

I'm a structural (or whatever) anti-Semite, because I question details of the Holocaust myth.
Wonder if this comment will get censored ...
