I suspect we already know that democracies are fatal traps, hence the rise of the republic to prevent the same issues, but to no avail. The challenge is deriving a system of governance (not government because it implies the solution) for society that isn't corrupt. We have not come across one yet that has actually been tried. That have all failed, some more quickly, others a little slower.
