Talking Poverty With Chris Arnade
Chris Arnade is the storied author of Dignity: Seeking Respect in Back Row America. He’s also a very cool guy. Last October, we “debated” poverty for the Acton Institute, though it was really more of an adversarial collaboration. On education, Arnade and I already see eye-to-eye, so I tried to sell him on housing deregulation and open borders. And as you can see from his photography, Arnade also has intimate first-hand knowledge of the causal effects of irresponsible behavior on poverty. But unlike me, he’s deeply non-judgmental. In fact, he sometimes suggests that heroin addicts are living better lives than bourgeois financiers, though it’s unclear how serious he is.

Damn, it must be nice to be omnipotent.
1. I seldom see it mentioned in this sort of debate that things like drug use and singe mother families could plausibly be the result of more affluence.
2. When people are poor for Religious reasons their children do not get the bad outcomes that many blame on growing up poor. Joel Kyras is evidently the poorest county in the USA not much crime or illegitimacy there.
